Trend Report from Our Designers: Contrasting Perspectives with Grace and Hayley.
At Danni Morrison Studios, we pride ourselves on bringing diverse design visions to life. We share a trend report from two of our talented designers, Grace and Hayley, each bringing their unique perspectives to the forefront. Let's dive into their contrasting yet equally inspiring approaches to contemporary interior design.
Grace's Perspective:
Bold Trends, Maximalist and Contemporary, Multifunctional Design.
Hayley’s Perspective:
Biophilic Design, Sustainability and Evocative Design.
Statement Pieces and Loud Decor
Grace:
My design philosophy embraces the "more is more" mantra. I love incorporating statement pieces that express personality and make a bold impact. Think Rachel Donath designer ottomans and striking chairs from McMullin & Co. These pieces not only serve as functional furniture but also as conversation starters that reflect the homeowner's individuality.
Hayley:
Iconic furniture forms are being re-imagined and also just returning to our catalogues that are low slung and relaxed. Inviting materials are being used such as velvets and linens, and biophilic materials such mid-tone and darker timber veneers as well as all the marbles we never would have given a look a couple of years ago - are all popular at the moment.
2. Mid-Century Colour Palettes and Geometric Shapes
Grace:
There is a gravitation towards mid-century modern aesthetics, characterised by precise lines and bold yet earthy colour palettes. A blend of rich greens and deep blues paired with darker timbers like walnut and mahogany, steering away from lighter oaks. This palette brings a sense of maturity, sophistication and timeless appeal to any space.
Hayley:
I’m seeing rich and evocative colour palettes that nod to the 1970s but not in a kitsch way - rather celebrating hedonism and the positive way those colours, forms and materials make us feel in our spaces. Warm, alive and connected to nature.
3. Comfy Furniture, Clever Design & a Hand-Crafted Aesthetic
Grace:
In contrast to the hard foam boucle trend, there’s a focus on super comfy, lounge-worthy furniture. I prefer pieces that are big, soft, and inviting, creating spaces that feel lived-in and cosy. Valuing multifunctional designs—modular furniture that can be rearranged to serve multiple purposes, like the innovative sofa beds from Koala and Eva.
Hayley:
With biophilic materials such as timber, marble, wicker and linen, we are seeing a more artisanal, hand crafted aesthetic in design elements such as lighting, rugs, furniture and soft furnishings. This idea that we are interacting with and appreciating objects that have been hand made by a person, connects us to them in a much more meaningful way than in styles that have a more manufactured, precision aesthetic.
4. A Nod to Nostalgia
Grace:
Creating environments that feel curated and personal, rather than overly-staged. This includes antique-inspired pieces and vintage-look Parisian styles, such as Merci Maison stools, Business & Pleasure Co sun loungers, and Coco Republic outdoor chairs. This brings a touch of timeless elegance and grandeur to contemporary settings.
Hayley:
There is definitely a focus on vintage-feel furniture and decor at the moment, and creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also environmentally conscious and detail-driven. Celebrating natural materials and elements that enhance our connection to nature and promote well-being, while repairing, recycling and reimagining used items from the past has become popular.
