Designing the Perfect Outdoor Space on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast's subtropical climate and stunning natural beauty make outdoor living essential to our lifestyle. Our Buderim project showcases how thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces can blur the line between inside and out, creating a seamless extension of your home.

In Queensland, outdoor spaces deserve just as much attention as interiors. They're not just places to relax – they're where we gather, cook, entertain, and create memories. As interior designers, we specialise in crafting outdoor areas as stylish, functional, and inviting as indoor spaces.

Start with Durability: Invest in Quality

Outdoor living in Queensland means dealing with heat, humidity, and the occasional storm. Selecting high-quality materials and furnishings is crucial. At Morrison Studios, we choose fabrics, furniture, and finishes that are designed to withstand our climate, ensuring they look great for years to come. Brands like Sarah Ellison, Bisque, Globe West and MCM House have consistently delivered exceptional results for us.

Our Buderim project used premium outdoor fabrics that resist fading and moisture, ensuring the seating areas stay pristine under the Queensland sun.

Create Zones for Every Occasion

Great outdoor spaces are versatile. Think about how you'll use the area – dining al fresco, lounging by the pool, or hosting weekend BBQs. We created multiple seating areas for our Buderim project, from poolside lounges perfect for sunbathing to a shaded dining nook ideal for family meals.

Designing with purpose ensures every corner of your outdoor area is functional and inviting.

Elevate Comfort with Thoughtful Details

Outdoor living should feel as luxurious as being indoors. Consider adding plush cushions, adjustable seating, and even outdoor fans to keep things cool during the summer. Comfort was a priority in Buderim, where soft furnishings and ergonomic designs transformed the space into a haven.

Maximise Shade and Ventilation

Queensland heat is no joke, which makes shade solutions and airflow critical. A combination of umbrellas, pergolas, and cleverly placed trees can help keep things comfortable. For Buderim, we used an Original Parasol scalloped-edge umbrella to provide stylish shade, while the open design of the outdoor kitchen encourages airflow.

Build for Entertaining

Outdoor kitchens and dining areas are a must for Sunshine Coast homes. In Buderim, we designed a fully equipped outdoor kitchen complete with a BBQ, ample counter space, and seating. This space makes hosting effortless, letting you spend more time with your guests and less time running inside.

Reflect Your Interior Style

Your outdoor spaces should feel like an extension of your home. For the Buderim project, we carried through the interior design's neutral tones and curved lines, ensuring a cohesive look. Accessories like curated planters and stylish tableware add personality while tying the space together.

Why Work with a Designer?

Designing outdoor spaces isn't just about aesthetics; it's about function, comfort, and longevity. At Morrison Studios, we understand how to balance all these elements, using our expertise to select materials, brands, and layouts that truly thrive in Queensland's unique environment.
